building information modeling (bim)
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is "a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility. As such, it serves as a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life cycle from inception onward.” (National Institute of Standards and Technology)
 
As of July 1, 2009, the Wisconsin Division of State Facilities BIM Guideline and Standard applies to DSF A/E selections for the following projects:
  • All construction (new and addition/alteration) with total project funding of $5M or greater,
  • All new construciton with total project funding of $2.5M or greater
  • All addition/alteration construction with total project funding of $2.5M or greater that includes new addtion costs of 50% or more of total
  • Encouraged but not required on all other projects.
